There is much to see and do in the surrounding area known as 'The Rhins of Galloway'. With miles of rugged coastline, rolling hills, forests and woodlands, the feeling is definitely one of 'Scotland in Miniature'. Basketweavers Cottage makes an ideal location from which to explore this beautiful and friendly area. Walking, golfing, sea angling (out of Portpatrick & Drummore), Dunskey Garden, Logan Botanic Garden, Glenwhan Gardens, beaches, sailing, pony trekking and mountain biking are all on offer locally. For those looking to relax and unwind, Basketweavers Cottage is the ideal place to stay. Take a stroll through any of the beautiful gardens, open locally, with their wide range of flora and fauna. Enjoy a bracing walk along the cliff tops past the ancient ruin of Dunskey Castle with views to the Isle of Man and the Mountains of Mourne across the Irish Sea. Enjoy a meal at one of our local restaurants offering local produce in season.

Portpatrick, meanwhile, has several hotels offering restaurants with first class local produce. There are quiet bars and lively bars - some with late entertainment. There are several antique/craft shops, general stores with ATM machines too. The bus service into Stranraer is hourly, if you do not want to drive, whilst Stranraer itself has a leisure centre with pools, sauna, gym, training suites, theatre and frequent live performances. Ferries sail from Loch Ryan to Belfast and occassionally have special offers for foot passengers. The local RNLI Station stages an events week during summer.
